Casa Leon $50 Gift Card

Mexican Bar & Grill

Opened in October 2025:

After months of construction, brother and sister duo Ricardo Camarena León and Patricia León Poage opened the doors to Casa León, located at 4420 Broadway in the former Maya Restaurant location, on Monday.

Named after the siblings’ mother, the restaurant pays tribute to their family, Hispanic heritage and hometown of Jesús María.

“In Mexico, everybody has two last names,” León explained. “You get the first last name from your dad, and then the first last name from your mom… (León) means ‘lion’ in English. I think it’s really cool.”

Casa León joins a restaurant in Kahoka, Missouri, two taco trucks and Taquería Arandas, located at 1828 Broadway in Quincy, as the family’s fifth culinary venture.

“We have always wanted a bigger place,”  León said. “We love our little restaurant (Taquería Arandas) down there, but we can never seat big parties.”

Casa León’s greater seating capacity and larger parking lot allow plenty of room for big parties, and the affordable prices keep it accessible for families with several children. Space isn’t the only difference between the new restaurant and Taquería Arandas, though.

“We’re concentrating on having more authentic flavor, like real Mexican flavor,” Poage said. “We are adding some different items to the menu.”

One of those items, charro beans, is a staple Mexican dish and could easily be considered a close relative to chili, consisting of pinto beans, bacon, ham, chorizo, chili peppers and other spices.

Thanks to the influence of their brother-in-law, a 20-plus-year culinary veteran hailing from the Lone Star State, the menu will feature some Tex-Mex classics, also.

Brunch items like chilaquiles and huevos rancheros are on the way, too, providing a first-of-its-kind dining experience for breakfast lovers in the area. León said the restaurant will begin offering brunch on weekends only once everyone gets settled.
